About Xijin

Soprano Xijin Chen is currently pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts in Opera Performance at the Butler School of Music, University of Texas at Austin, where she studies with Leah Crocetto.

A recipient of the Butler School of Music Scholarship Award, she recently performed Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro with Music on Site in 2025 and Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi at UT Austin. Her recent roles at UT Austin also include the title role in Cendrillon and the Countess in Le nozze di Figaro. In 2024, she portrayed Donna Anna in Don Giovanni with Chicago Summer Opera. She will attend the Music Academy this summer, continuing her artistic development alongside distinguished faculty and emerging artists. 

Xijin earned her Master of Music degree from the New England Conservatory, studying with Carole Haber and receiving the Dean’s Scholarship. During her time there, she performed scenes as Juliette (Roméo et Juliette), Suzel (L’amico Fritz), Norina (Don Pasquale), and Nannetta (Falstaff).

She was awarded the Encouragement Award at the 2024 Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition (Florida District) and was named Winner of the 2025 Laffont Competition (San Diego District). Committed to artistic growth and musical integrity, she continues to refine her craft and build a dynamic presence on the operatic stage.

The Nashville Bel Canto Foundation proudly offers the fully-funded Italian Opera Scenes Intensive, a scholarship-based program dedicated to cultivating the next generation of opera talent. This immersive course provides singers with the opportunity to deepen their artistry through the study of Italian operatic repertoire and Bel Canto technique.
